I'm sure the entire community is sick of my housing troubles...
...however, I just got rejected for on-campus today so I have two weeks to find something off-campus or I can't go back.

Is anyone living off-campus and looking for a roommate, or knows of an available room or apartment, or looking for a room or apartment and need a roommate to move in with them? I'm not picky about what kind of situation it is honestly, except for the following requirements:

-Rooms must be at least minimally furnished (and I mean minimally, like have a bed) because it's not practical for me to get my own bed.

-Obviously I'm not sharing a bed :-P, I'd prefer to have my own room but if worst comes to worst I'll share.

-I don't care if I have to share anything else. Bathrooms, common areas, whatever. I don't need a private entrance either. I can't afford to be picky. I don't really cook so I don't care if there's no kitchen or whatever.

-I would prefer to live with girls but again, I can live with guys if I need to.

-I don't drive so I probably need to be in White Plains or Port Chester. I only travel by bus and foot. I don't really care how shitty the location is frankly, as long as it's practical for me to catch the loop from it (or even the Bee-Line).

-I don't have pets but if you do that's fine. I like animals.

I am NOT PERMITTED to live on-campus so please DON'T invite me to join your dorm or on-campus apartment. I can say right now that I'm not a lunatic or anything so don't worry. There could be a Brick or Indy article built around how ridiculous this ruling was, frankly.

Just to share a bit about myself I'm a junior history major, female, 21, kind of nerdy, talkative, I spend a lot of time online and don't watch much TV but I like GSN, Science Channel, and Food Network, I'm a trivia nut so I might share a lot of random facts, I read a lot, I spend a lot of time at the library, I used to frequent the Co-Op but apparently that's part of the Res Halls =( I'm kind of sarcastic, I like politics, I'm not always that neat but I try, and after graduation I want to get a Master's in Library Science.

I was going to go skating today, but there was a really slow, really long train on the tracks between me and the pond. So instead I sat in front of the computer and thought about things. I thought about how I'd like to have a job someday, doing something I enjoy. And suddenly I decided that I should cement my name:

    the purchase paparazzo

complete with website and tumblr's adorable little "reblog" button. My ego and I are very fond of that button.

Better site with actual header graphics when I have the time and reason (procrastinating Elise Lemire's essays probably) to throw myself into some cascading style sheets. Reckless abandon and all that.

And oh yeah, I'll be putting up brand new shiny photos as soon as we're back on campus and you bitches invite me to a party. That's your cue. Plan something with costumes. I like costumes.

Although I am breaking a cardinal rule.......
by being a graduated student (finally after 2.5 years in a hipsterfied construction site) by posting on this, but why not? It could be for nostalgia's sake (This is what I would assume all the no-good low lives who keep coming back claim.)

Not like I would want to be within 25 feet of most of you catty, selfish, spoiled, gentrifying bumper sticker apathetic hipster postmodern nouveu riche hipster/hipster spawn (combine all of them) at any given time.

I'm being unfair. Most people that I've met at the school were two notches above tolerable.

It was fun bothering most of you for a while, and I appreciate the comedic things I have brought myself while being a detriment to a fine amount of school functions.

The school has a do it yourself, iconoclastic streak to it... or does it?

Does someone who creates his own newspaper and rebel against the "elite" truly deserve scorn from such a wide range of people? (ME) (Almost surprising how you thought my sheet of paper with made up stories was a newspaper. Thank the INDY for wasting your activity fee by appearing on the radio and TV to debate a false newspaper)

Does a comic book collecting, anime loving trivia wizard deserve the shit you all say behind his back, despite lacking ANY mean tendencies in his body (Peter Foy?)

Oh well. As I look back at most of you, a gossiping pack of artificially created "unique" individuals I will remember what the final culmination of soulless aesthetic postmodernism is embodied by: Purchase College Fall 2009.

Please, leave me comments. I won't read them. I will come back when I'm older and highly successful and godlike and show my children how easy it is to annoy people. I mean, as Oscar Wilde said "The only thing worse then being talked about is not being talked about at all."

Enjoy the construction, the vacant stood (all 42 broken arcade games) and friday nights of sitting in your apartment drunk to 80s synth pop that you're too young to remember! Maybe since Sam is in charge of Culture shock, you will recognize an all time high amount of bands preforming! 5%! What a deal!

    Rot in Williamsberg "ya'll"!

An new interview with MST3k's Joel
I recently had a chance to see Joel Hodgson's latest venture, Cinematic Titanic, give a special live performance for New Year's Eve. As part of the promotional blitz, Joel became available for interviews and I was lucky enough to get one with him!

An Interview with MST3k and Cinematic Titanic's Joel Hodgson

In it he discusses fandom cons, weird things he got sent to him while doing the show, how Cinematic Titanic formed, and what recent movie he thought was a "hack job."

    Enjoy!

P.S. The Cinematic Titanic show was GREAT and I highly recommend trying to catch one of their performances.

So I get back from my European holiday (Copenhagen & Warsaw) and am telling my friends all about it, when I found out that they heard nothing of Auschwitz's sign getting stolen. Maybe because I was in Poland when it happened, idk, but did you hear about it?

Good starter MST3K for small kids?
We have two kids ages 6 and 8. They've heard us talking about "Misty" (="MST") and our son (the 6yo) did see the Hot Slot Bots car race between Crow and Tom somehow. For the most part, we haven't run these in front of the kids because they can have adult concepts. It's one thing to explain a joke, it's another thing to explain Joel's drug jokes or any of the more adult entendres.

However, the kids have asked if there's a MST they can watch. They're smart kids, but we understand that MST requires a lot of cultural knowledge, and at this age, wedgie jokes are high humor. That's OK by us, we figure we'll just hit Pause a lot to explain the jokes. But it would be good if we didn't have too much drug/adult humor to have to explain to the under-10 set.

My first thought was some of the fantasy movies like Magic Sword or The Day the Earth Froze. However, maybe some of the shorts would be OK too, and quicker to sit through.

What would be good choices for this situation? Or would it be better to tell them "Sorry, you'll have to wait until you're older"?

Winter Runner & Heat Wave Cyclist
So I was sitting on my couch in Alumni eating a PB&B (peanut butter and banana) while my friend [info]heartttcore sat nearby eating peanut butter from the jar with a spoon. Watching the snow begin to fall, never did it occur to us that anything might be wrong with this kind of activity. It's the winter and furthermore the holiday season; I can eat a sleeve of cookie dough if I want to right now and that's okay. Then there was winter runner:

(not actually a picture of Purchase Winter Runner, just a stock representative)

Winter runner was rapidly completing his loop beneath my window overlooking the Alumni parking lot... in shorts...and a skull cap...and sneakers...in the snow. Yeah, winter runner: making everyone feel fat and fucking useless. Winter runner, ruining my 2pm breakfast of PB&B. Thanks!

Now, I'm not saying ALL outdoor winter activity is inherently fucked up. Running from a bus stop to your door? Fine. Sledding on a garbage pail lid? Sure. Foraging for food because you're a fucking squirrel? Go right ahead. But I'm pretty sure this guy was not making his way to a bus stop, nor was he carrying any make-shift sleigh and I would even venture the wild guess that he shops at Whole Foods and not a buried store of nuts.

    (A squirrel foraging)

Winter runner is kind of like Heat Wave Cyclist, and sometimes even the same person. For some reason this person seems to enjoy donning full body spandex while cross-country cycling through 90% humidity on 99 degree summer days under full sun of noon. Up a fucking hill. On father's day at school Heat Wave Cyclist's kid has no chance; Heat Wave Cyclist's kid gets the crap mercilessly kicked out them when recess rolls around. "My dad's a volunteer fireman, he saves lives for fun." "My dad is a Heat Wave Cyclist, he makes people want to kill themselves...for fun." Now Johnny's listening to Insane Clown Posse and painting his nails and maybe turning into a fag and it's all because his asshole father ran when it was below 32 degrees and/or rode his bike in the dog days of August.

(Heat Wave Cyclist's son Johnny, age 16)

Basically what I'm trying to say is my PB&B is cold now and I'm pissed at the world.
